In a year of giving Killearn Church is
THE KIRK IN ACTION
2010 was a year of giving – and one that Killearn Church can be proud to recall as the reaching out to help others took on massive proportions. At the time of the Pakistan flood disaster, a soup and bread lunch raised contributions of cash, bottled water
and foodpacks which were delivered free by Pakistan International Airline while members worked in Afghanistan with International Assistance Mission.
Other members visited our sister church in Malawi and delivered pencils/ pens/ notebooks / jotters for children, baby clothes, knitted blankets for babies, spectacles, mobile phones, laptops and software all of which were greeted with great enthusiasm and gratitude. Things we take for granted mean so much more to the people and children in Malawi.
At home the Kirk continued to provide clothes for asylum seekers through St. Rollox Church together with Christmas gifts for their children.
Harvest gifts were distributed to Glasgow City Mission and to local folk while three members of the youth group raised £800 for charities with a coffee morning.
Other members helped locally in voluntary work including Meals on Wheels, Crossroads, Ballikinrain School, Strathendrick Welfare Fund. They were also involved in the projects of Killearn Community Futures Company, Girlguiding, Killearn Community Council, Killearn Golden Years’ Club, Thursday Club, Christian Aid and Cancer Research while The Friday Night Thing was established in the Church hall for young people.
It is better to give than to receive – that's the motto of THE KIRK IN ACTION. |
